Writing Festival

So, I attended the English Writing Festival and I was blown away with the croud of people that were there and the amount of booths. I noticed that there wasn't one booth that looked anything like another. I know a girl that was appart of one of the groups that had a booth and they did an anti-essay where the group played games in the library and was very loud. To me it was very very complicated how all this turned into an essay. Yes, I thought it was cool and sounded fun, but in a way I kinda understand. Its like your writing an essay, but because its an anti-essay then tenically your not...your doing to opposite...like how they played games and destracted people trying to study rather than what students typically do in the library. I noticed others and many were really creative, but I didn't have the time to look at everyone of them. It was an exciting experience for sure with some of the people dressed in costumes and such. I look foward to the festival next year..and might end up actually being apart of it rather than just attending it.

First year Freshman

Ok, so as this semister is comming to a close I look back on everything that has happened in this first year as a freshman. Starting out in the fall everything was slowly falling appart mainly due to haveing a hard time with the transition from being in high school and being takin care of by my parents to being thrown into College and have to take care of myself. After I had figured out what all was going on I found a job at IHOP where I still work and love. I had a hard time with classes and couldn't find to make myself go to class all the time. I figured that most students go through this, but later I realized how bad it really was. I told myself that I had to do better next semister, because I knew I could do better. Hoping that I could get ahold of myself in this new year by turning over a new leaf and being a better student. I started out great, but slowly began to fall into the same habits in some classes. As the semister went on the more drive I had to do good and show that I am a good student and not a drop-out. Now with there only being a few weeks left I am hopeing that the grades are much better and feel more confident about that then last semister. If I could tell anyone this is about to start college it would be to prepare yourself before you get dropped off and left at college and learn to study beforehand. I have found that the College work isn't whats hard..its making yourself go to class everyday and doing the work on time. I plan to use this summer as a time to catch up on what I left behind and forgot all year and prepare for anouther year at Tech.

The Dreaded Tests

I went to a workshop the other day and it was about how to not stress over test. This is one of my biggest issues, because I hardly ever do well on a test. I figured that this workshop might help me or at least give me ideas on how to supress this fear of testing. The speaker mentioned that a good way to study without stressing is make sure you know the material very well before attempting to take the test. Nothing is worse than going into a test feeling sick about it, because that is how the grade will end up. Another is use all reasources such as study guides and take notes during class and go back over them after class to refresh your memory. Also the speaker went on about never cramming the night before a test, but rather taking a break the night before and scanning over notes right before the test to refresh your memory. Its always a bad idea to kill your brain the night before thinking that you will remember it the next day cause ya won't. After this workshop I felt that now when I have a test comming up what to do and how to make the best possible grade without stressing out about it.

Evaluations

Craft, Care at Flatbread Company Makes up for Sparse Menu
So I read the evaluation and pretty much I am now starving lol. The way that the Flatbread was described made me soo hungry. I love how each item on the menu was decribed in great detail and made me feel as if I was sitting there looking and smelling the food. GAHHH ...Im most definatly getting something to eat after this lol. The evaluation was a great example in my opinion, because of the detail used for each menu item. I most definatly want to go eat me some now lol. This evaluation helped me to trully understand what an evaluation is.

Potter Power
Ok. So Potter Power is a good evaluation, but in my opnion not the greatest or not as good as the flatbread one. Craig really did a good job with making the Harry Potter series look good and make it more appealing to older people or more refined rather than younger kids. This is only because of all the large words and wording that many younger childeren, that the book was written for, wouldn't understand. Basicly the guy who was writing this talks way over the audience's head.
Dawson's Creek
I absoutly loved this evaulation. I feel like it truly hit the nail on the head. Ben Leever did an awesome job of decribing the TV show, but at the same time not telling everything about it. He basicly said just enough. The main focus of the evaluation was of how family and christian groups tried to get the program off air or get the show to not mention certian topics that many teenagers are obviously face everyday. I have never seen the show, but I now feel like it would be something worth my time.
